Books, Bridals, Boxes & Big Bend

Books

So, guess who jumped on the Sookie Stackhouse bandwagon?!

Yeah, I did.

The library actually had it in when I went last week, so I picked it up. I also picked up The Yankee Years and sTori Telling. I realized I only had about 2 weeks to read all 3 because I was going back home July 4th weekend through the wedding on August 1st. I can't read all 3 books in 2 weeks! I knew my mom got my dad The Yankee Years for Father's Day so I put that one aside and started in on Dead Until Dark. I read it in 2 days. I guess I have a thing for vampire books.

I'm in no way obsessed and don't plan on spending money on the rest of the books. I may get stuck after the next book because I don't think our library has it. Someone might have to loan it to me!

Anyway, I really enjoyed the book. It was quite a change from the vampire books I know and love (Twilight...), but it was a nice easy read. It's also fun to read when I'm living in Louisiana - where the books take place.

Since I finished that yesterday I started on sTori Telling. So far I'm pleasantly surprised. I'm not minding reading it at all and should finish it quickly. I guess I'm in a big reading kick.

Bridals

How many of you had bridal portraits done before your wedding?

I was dead-set against them when I started this whole process. I thought it was a waste. I mean, what will I do with a bunch of pictures of me? Frame them? I think not. Give them to other people? What other people?

Well, the big, expensive photography package I have for the wedding includes a bridal session and I've decided to bite the bullet and do it. I love love love my gown and figure I owe it to the gown to document it's beauty. No? Ok, well, I just think it might be fun to get all gussied up before the big day. Plus, I can test-drive the hair-do (that I have no idea what it will be yet) and makeup.

Boxes

There are stacks of boxes at the end of my driveway. No, they are not full of my things. My driveway-sharing neighbors are moving out today.

They are my parents age and finally retiring from the Army. He spent 10 years in the Reserves or Guard and then 20 years on Active Duty. I'm anxious about who our new neighbors will be. We share a carport and driveway with them so it could be really bad. Perhaps it will be really good though. For the last few months their carport has been full of crap so I'm glad to see that go.

They've been nice, quiet, friendly neighbors and I hope the new people that end up over there are just as nice, quiet and friendly. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it isn't an annoying party-loving couple.

Big Bend

My family is at Big Bend National Park right now. My dad called me a little while ago from the Rio Grande.

I think they miss me.

I miss them too.

I don't know if I've ever missed a "family" vacation like this. I wish I was with them to share the laughs and experiences.

It's hard having them there because the communication is extremely sketchy. They are staying in a lodge without cell phone service, internet, tv, or phones. I'm used to talking to my mom multiple times per day. I've gone to grab my phone to call her a few times since they got there yesterday and have to remind myself to put the phone down and wait until she can call me. It's a weird feeling.

That's all I've got today. I'm really hungry so I think lunch might be in order.

Bridal portraits must be a southern thing. Everyone I know had them done, including myself. Then, after moving to Germany I hardly met anyone that had them. I like having pictures of myself in my wedding dress since my ones at the wedding and reception were all with others and were less posed. I have a big one up in our bedroom. J has one on his desk.

I'm for Bridal portraits if they come with your package for the following reason: It gives you more time to wear that dress you spent money on other than the ONE day! And you get to have lots of pictures of you in it-- which gives you more time ON the wedding day since they won't have to take more time to take pics of you!

I'm afraid to read the Sookie books! Books are usually better than the movies-- and if that's true, then my imagination of the books will give me nightmares! haha
