Rough

I've had a bad week.

I had a total meltdown Wednesday morning. Tears. Snot. The whole nine yards. I took a long, hot shower, got dressed and hit up the food court for some BK fries and a Starbucks iced coffee. Somewhere in there I made myself put on my big girl panties and resolved to deal with it.

Things aren't so easy around here right now. I'm trying to pack up our entire life and my overly organized mind thinks and re-thinks (and then re-thinks some more) every single decision. What goes in storage here? What gets stored at my parents' house? Should I pack room-by-room or should like-items go together? What can go in the storage unit now and what needs to go at the last minute? When should the mattress go and the air mattress come in?

Besides the packing stress I'm dealing with the simple fact that Brian is leaving. Again. This time I'll be here til the bitter end. Last time I wasn't living here. I came, visited and went right back home. The last week before he hopped on that plane to sand-land we were already separated. I never went to the deployment ceremony and I wasn't there to say goodbye at the very end. This time I will be. I'm scared.

Also, his deployment window changed. It got moved by a good couple weeks. My parents had already taken time off from work and planned to come help me clear housing and move back home based on the first set of dates. My parents are still coming when they were originally so I'll be clearing housing all by myself. It will be up to me to make sure the house is clean and everything left that I own is packed in the truck - including the dog. I know I can do it and there's something empowering about getting it done on my own, but I still sorta wish I didn't have to.

I have often felt stuck since moving here. When I graduated from college, my life sorta lost forward momentum. I thought I could jump into Army life and find my purpose there. It never happened. For almost 2 years I've lived in the middle of nowhere, 8 hours from family, no friends to speak of, no chance of continuing my education and only working a handful of hours. I need more than that. I need school or a job or friends.

Things are about to change for me. Hopefully I can find a bit of my identity in those changes. I've applied to grad school and think they'd be fools to not accept me. I plan to work and/or volunteer while I'm home. No moping around the house while getting nothing accomplished like the last deployment. I'm looking forward to finding out where we'll be stationed next. I'm ready for all the change that's coming. That doesn't make it any less scary. And in the meantime, I have to do a lot of sitting and waiting. Waiting to hear about grad school. Waiting for Brian to leave. Waiting to get out of LA and back to TX. Sometimes it's suffocating.

For now I'll focus on small victories like weekend getaways at the lake, Starbucks iced coffees, BK fries and my sweet puppy dog's face.

Have a good weekend everybody! :)

Loving Right Now

.1.
How have I not known about this guy? So so cute. And props to Netflix for having all 4 seasons available instantly! :):)

.2.
High School Football
It's football season in West Texas. As always, I'm pulling for my alma mater every Friday night!

.3.
New Nine West Sunglasses
After finding the last installment of Brian's enlistment bonus in our checking account, I figured I could treat myself to some super cute $30 sunglasses!

.4.
Brian's Anniversary Present for Me
I'm still trying to decide if I want to get a chain for it or just add it to my charm bracelet. Either way, totally love it!

.5.
The Vampire Diaries
I loved this show last season and still can't get enough of it this season.

Bullet Points.

I can't seem to write a decent post these days. You'll just have to settle for this:

  • I can't help but smile when watching/listening to songs from Glee.
  • I'm cheating on my Mocha Frappuccino with plain old iced coffee. It's almost half the price. And doesn't taste too bad!
  • It's premiere season. I'm more excited about this than I should be.
  • I keep thinking these sentences in Facebook status format. One of these days I'll just start talking in the 3rd person.
  • I officially applied for grad school. I'm hoping for January admission. I'm not sure how I'm paying for it.
  • Today was trash day. There are 5 more trash days before I move home. There are 4 more trash days before Brian leaves.
  • Eminem is everywhere, man! (...listening to Love the Way You Lie right now.) I remember listening to his first album like 10 years ago. I think it freaks Brian out a bit that I like his music.
  • The new Halo game came out today. It should keep Brian occupied for awhile.
  • I have running mental lists of moving stuff that needs to get done. Sometimes I get really overwhelmed and have to force myself to stop thinking about it.
  • It was 65 this morning when I got up. I thought I was ready for fall, but I'm not so sure anymore. I had flashbacks to last winter and the itchy sweaters and cold sheets at night and shivering every time Tiny had to pee. Maybe summer could stick around a while longer.
  • I can't figure out why Brian is still working until 5 or later everyday. Um...they're leaving in a month. Cut them a break.
That's about it I guess. I've been in a funk lately. Thus the lack of posts. I think this impending deployment is messing with me a bit.

Nine Years Later...

What I wrote on 9.11.08:

Seven years ago today I was a Junior in high school. I was walking from Spanish to Choir and heard a murmur in the halls. Something had happened. I didn't find out the true extent until I got to Choir and we got an update from the directors. We didn't practice that day. I got a note from the office to call my mom. I had never gotten one of those fun papers and I would never get one again. My mom saved phone calls to home for important, world-altering events apparently. I called my mom from the choir office. She told me that she couldn't get through to anyone on Staten Island. We found out later that no calls could be put in to the city at all. It was a tense afternoon praying that everyone we love the most was safe. I have two police uncles that could have been in the middle of things. I also knew every aunt and uncle of mine had friends who works in Manhattan. This would affect us all. Finally we got a call from my grandparents (I think) and we knew that our family was spared. It was an afternoon that no one from here could understand. New York is too far away for most to even care about. I cared. I finally got up there a year later for my Great-Grandmother's 90th birthday. I finally saw Ground Zero. You can't speak when you're at Ground Zero. It's a spiritual place. So many people took their last breath inside that city block. So, today, I hope that everyone stops and remembers. Please, remember where you were when you found out. Remember all those people who lost their lives. Remember so one day you can tell your children. We cannot forget.

Where were you? Are you remembering today? I am.

About Our Weekend...

This weekend we took off for Lake Sam Rayburn in East Texas. We were looooooong overdue for a mini-vacay.

^^The trees as seen from the porch.

^^He's so adorable.

^^The little lake inlet near our cabin.

^^I'm gonna miss him. :(

^^Tiny spent most of his time running wildly through the trees in front of the cabin.

^^We decimated a 1000 piece puzzle in 48 hours. Too bad 2 pieces were missing.

^^In honor of our 1 year church wedding anniversary (Aug. 1st) and our 3 year courthouse wedding anniversary (Sept. 21st) we dug into our cake topper from our big wedding last year. It still tasted good and neither of us got sick from it. Score!

^^Then I got to come home to this beauty. I promise to ration my watching this time around. :)
