You wouldn't suspect that three adults are hiding out in this house right now. The front of the house is dark. Even the lamp on a timer has been turned off so as not to confuse any youngsters outside. We do not have any candy and the only jack-o-lantern on our property is inside and is made of plastic. We don't do Halloween and we haven't for some time.
I think I grew up in the time when Halloween was waning. When I was just about to the age where trick or treating wasn't acceptable anymore it seems that everyone else didn't want to trick or treat anymore either. This is when
trunk and/or treating was born. It's all the rage here with the 9,578,923,749 churches in town. I, personally, have never experienced getting candy from someone sitting on their tailgate. I think Halloween may need to shift somehow. I don't know if I like the idea of my future children going to strangers' doors and asking for candy. I wonder what it will be like when I do have children. I wonder if trick or treating will ever be replaced with something else. I almost think that Halloween should be kinda like Easter. Instead of an Easter egg hunt, how about a Halloween pumpkin hunt? Maybe it's because I am quite shy that I prefer things that can be done in the comfort of my own home. I don't like interacting with others much. Sad, I know.
Now, I must say that I enjoy all the Halloween decorations. I sent Brian a "Halloween Box" this year since he's gone and it rocked. I just love fake spiders and sticky googly eyes and shiny pumpkin garland and funny cards about skeletons peeing on themselves. It was a really fun box to put together and Brian claims some of the decorations even got put up around his bed. Maybe I'll have to decorate for Halloween even if I'm not a fan of trick or treating.
Today I cleaned my room, did two loads of laundry and babysat my "nephew" (my oldest friend's son) for 3 hours. It was a rather productive day in the life of me. Since I was so productive today, I am rewarding myself with crap TV and movies tonight. Oh and I'm getting myself up early tomorrow to whip my butt at the gym. I have gotten really lazy with going and I'm mad at myself. I really want to end things strong here before I move because there is no guarantee I'll get myself to a gym again until Brian is back.
Brian called today and he lost his wedding ring. I was surprised when he told me, but now I can't help but think that I shouldn't have been surprised. I knew it had gotten too big and I know that Brian likes to break and lose things. At least it wasn't diamond encrusted. Plus, I wanted to replace it for our wedding anyway. Now, I'll just try to talk him into getting me a new one too (or another one to mix and match).
Alright, I'm out.
Happy Halloween everyone!
