.5.
Some Nights by fun.
I turned this up and jammed out in my car today.

In other news, work is kicking my butt. Working all day, cooking dinner, and keeping up with the house generally takes up every waking hour. The good news is that my weeks go by relatively fast. We went home for 4 days last weekend which was much needed and super fun. I kicked off high school football season with my parents (with a win!). It's still too dang hot, but I know it'll be freezing in a couple months. This weekend we're staying in town. I need to run some errands and clean the house. Brian wants to take the boat out. Hopefully she (the boat) is cooperative. I guess that's about it. Pretty boring, but I wanted to check in.

Confessions

I slept until 10 this morning.

I turned in my application for the job today.

I'm obsessed with Phillip Phillips on American Idol
I haven't watched a single episode this season.
Blame the internet and my mother for getting me hooked.
The video that started it all:
And one with his guitar for good measure:

My perfume is Justin Bieber's Someday.

Two weeks from right now we will be in the great state of New York!

Good Night

I've heard this song a few times this week. I heard it again this afternoon while driving to our hometown and it really got stuck in my head. Since I enjoyed the music video, I figured it deserved a spot in my blog.

Loving Right Now: High School Music Edition

When I think about high school, I think about these songs. Some remind me of specific people and some remind me of long drives in my car with the top down. I still know every single word to some of them. I had so much fun putting this together!

.1.
"Konstantine" by Something Corporate

...the present's just a pleasant interruption to the past

And I had dreams, in them I learned to play guitar
Maybe cross the country, become a rock star

This is because I can spell confusion with  'K' and I can like it
It's to dying in another's arms and why I had to try it
It's to Jimmy Eat World and those nights in my car
When the first star you see may not be a star

I always catch the clock, it's 11:11 and you wanna talk

You spin around me like a dream
We played out on this movie screen
And I said, Did you know I missed you?

.2.
"Wherever You Will Go" by The Calling

I know now, just quite how
My life and love might still go on
In your heart, in your mind
I'll stay with you for all time

.3.
"Not Enough" by Our Lady Peace

When they say you're not that strong
You're not that weak
It's not your fault
And when you climb up to your hill
Up to your place
I hope you're well

.4.
"Everything" by Lifehouse

You are the strength that keeps me walking
You are the hope that keeps me trusting
You are the life to my soul
You are my purpose
You're everything

.5.
"Sadie Hawkins Dance" by Relient K

Scan the cafeteria for some good seating
I found a good spot by the cheerleaders eating
The quarterback asked me if I'd like a beating
I said that one thing I won't be needing
And since I'm rather smart and cunning
I took off down the next hall running
Only to get stopped by a girl so stunning

Old

I turned 26 in August. Since then I've struggled a bit with feeling "old." Now, though, I don't think my struggles have been so much with feeling "old," but with feeling unsatisfied. It's funny how life is never what you think it will be. I thought I would be happy and fulfilled by being a stay-at-home-wife to an Army guy. Turns out that's not really the case. Instead of doing anything about that over the last four years, I've pretty much done nothing. I suppose I took one small step in the right direction a year ago when I applied for and started graduate school. (I finished my second semester last week and am totally rocking a 4.0!) I guess I just thought things would be different for me at 26. Honestly, though, I'm not sure what I even thought would be so different. When I was younger I always thought I'd have kids by this point, but due to circumstances (*cough* deployments *cough*) that hasn't happened yet. Really I just thought that this Army life would be enough for me. Maybe it's not.

We are moving in early March and I have high hopes that a new place will be just what I need to sort of start over. I want to start our family and get a job and have a house that isn't attached to neighbors on two sides. I want to put down some roots and fall in love with where I'm living. I'm not naive and I'm making an effort to keep my expectations in check, but I'm ready for something new. I'm ready to say goodbye to Louisiana (although it will always have a special place in my heart) and move somewhere with a freaking Target less than an hour away! Priorities, people!

I've thought a lot about this stuff over the last few months, but watching a recent episode of Glee yesterday really sort of drove it home. The episode ended with a song ("We Are Young" by fun.) that raced up the iTunes charts after the episode aired. It's ridiculously catchy, but the repeating line of we are young echoed in my mind. I am not old. I am only 26. I have so many years ahead of me and experiences waiting to be had. I don't want to wish this part of my life away. I don't want to one day regret rushing through my twenties. So, I'm going to try not to. And when it gets hard I'll try to remember that...

Tonight
We are young
So let's set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun

Loving Right Now: Music Edition #3

.1.
"Colder Weather" by Zac Brown Band

And when I close my eyes I see you
No matter where I am

.2.
"Set the Fire to the Third Bar" by Snow Patrol

I pray that something picks me up
And sets me down in your warm arms

.3.
"Just A Kiss" by Lady Antebellum

Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight
Just a touch of the fire burnin' so bright

.4.
"Arms" by Christina Perri

You put your arms around me and I'm home

.5.
"I Won't Let Go" by Rascal Flatts

I will stand by you
I will help you through
When you've done all you can do
And you can't cope
I will dry your eyes
I will fight your fight
I will hold you tight
And I won't let go

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

I saw this show tonight with my brother.
I love musicals. I think I could watch one every night and never tire of them.
It was so much fun.

Did You Watch?

The Grammy Awards, that is?

I thought it was a fantastic show. Most entertaining 3.5 hours of my life in awhile!

Obviously I wasn't the only one who watched judging by the top 10 albums on iTunes today...

(I totally bought the Mumford & Sons album today, btw. It's amazing.)

Loving Right Now: Music Edition #2

.1.
"Marry Me" by Train

Promise me
You'll always be
Happy by my side
I promise to
Sing to you
When all the music dies

.2.
"The Cave" by Mumford and Sons

But I will hold on hope
And I won't let you choke
On the noose around your neck

And I'll find strength in pain
And I will change my ways
I'll know my name when it's called again

.3.
"Enchanted" by Owl City
(originally by Taylor Swift)

And this is me praying that
This was the very first page
Not where the story line ends
My thoughts will echo your name
Until I see you again
These are the words I held back
As I was leaving too soon
I was enchanted to meet you too

.4.
"Jar of Hearts" by Christina Perri

And it took so long just to feel all right
Remember how to put back the light in my eyes
I wish I had missed the first time that we kissed
Cause you broke all your promises

.5.
"Maybe" by Sick Puppies

Maybe it's time to change
And leave it all behind
I've never been one to walk alone
I've always been scared to try
So why does it feel so wrong
To reach for something more
To want to live a better life
What am I waiting for
Cause nothing stays the same
Maybe it's time to change

Diamond Rio!

So many times I find myself writing a blog post in my head, but then I get home or get caught up in something and I just never sit down to write. Hopefully some of you are still reading!

School has more or less taken over. It's not hard yet, but it's time consuming. I went to orientation for one of my classes last week. It was pointless. Well, it was good people watching, but horribly boring. There were more men than I thought there would be - one complete with ponytail and leather jacket! There were also more clueless people than I hoped/thought there would be. We went over every detail in the syllabus...the syllabus that I printed out over a week ago and had already read through more than once. I almost fell asleep.

Going to orientation required an over-night stay in a hotel. I got a great deal (thank you military/gov't rate!) and a nice room. About 4:30AM, the wind picked up as a cold front blew through. Well, the wind was howling through the a/c unit under the window so loudly that I couldn't sleep anymore. I was watching local news at 5AM. I waited for rush hour to be over and hit the road right after 9AM. I got home exactly 24 hours  after I left. A whirlwind trip. And I get to do it all over again this week for orientation round #2!

Does anyone know who Diamond Rio is? They sang this in 1991 (yeah...that long ago...)

OMG, just watched that video and cracked up. They're a little older now. Haha! Anyway, they were performing at a telethon in town to benefit a rehab center. Dad had to go present a check to them from the runner's club and I tagged along. What else do I have going on on a Saturday night?! Plus, it was Diamond Rio!

Side Story: In middle school we had "fun nights"... We had two gyms at our middle school - one would be lit up with basketballs and other sports equipment to play with (boys congregated in there) and the other gym would be dark with a deejay and a dance going on. They were super lame and I was super shy so it wasn't ever really that great of a time. Anyway, they gave out door prizes. At one of these fun nights, many moons ago, I won a prize: a Diamond Rio cassette tape!! Heck yeah, man! So, every time I hear of Diamond Rio, I remember that tape from middle school.

Diamond Rio!

Yesterday was spent eating a lot and watching football. Neither game worked out how I wanted it to, but it was fun to watch nonetheless. Today is devoted to taking care of business. I have a to do list and already crossed quite a few things off. I'll spend this afternoon studying.

Also, it's been almost 3 months since Brian left. Wow.

Tonight

Tonight I miss my husband.

Tonight I saw Country Strong with an old friend.

Tonight I can't get this song out of my head.

I'm gonna wear you down
I'm gonna make you see
I'm gonna get to you
You're gonna give in to me

I'm gonna start a fire
You're gonna feel the heat
I'm gonna burn for you
You're gonna melt for me

Come on, come on
Into my arms
Come on, come on
Give in to me

You're gonna take my hand
Whisper the sweetest words
And if you're ever sad
I'll make you laugh
I'll chase the hurt

My heart is set on you
I don't want no one else
And if you don't want me
I guess I'll be all by myself

Come on, come on
Into my arms
Come on, come on
Give in to me

I'll use my eyes to draw you in
Until I'm under your skin
I'll use my lips, I'll use my arms
Come on, come on, come on
Give in to me
Give in to me
Give in to me

Tonight I'll go to sleep alone again.

Tonight I'll hate this deployment a little more than usual.

Give In To Me

I love everything about this video. It's from the movie Country Strong which I want to see more and more every time I hear anything about it. And, oh boy, his voice...love it!

Something Good & Something Annoying

...you can figure out which is which.

I've been a big fat lazy bum today. Wait, I showered....does that count as productive? I haven't done anything for Brian's packages. I haven't unpacked anything. I haven't left the house. I'll start being productive again tomorrow. Sound good?

Also, a big thanks to my MIL for FB messaging me that she made Brian a picture calendar....4 hours after I hit the big "complete order" button on my own calendar. Deep breaths were needed after that message. The poor boy so doesn't need two calendars. Plus, I can't help but wonder what pictures she used. I'll just keep telling myself he'll enjoy mine full of pictures of me, us & the dog more than hers. Then I feel petty. Let the MIL vs. Wife battles begin!! Ha. Really just kidding about that...we all know I always bite my tongue when it comes to the in-laws.

MIA

Sorry I'm MIA. I'm packing and trashing and sorting and organizing and losing my dang mind. In the meantime, enjoy this:

Loving Right Now: Music Edition

.1.
"Just The Way You Are" by Bruno Mars

When I see your face,
there's not a thing that I would change
cause you're amazing just the way you are.
And when you smile,
the whole world stops and stares
cause, girl, you're amazing just the way you are.

.2.
"Stop And Stare" by OneRepublic

Stop and stare
You start to wonder why you're here not there
And you'd give anything to get what's fair
But fair ain't what you really need

.3.
"Life After You" by Daughtry

All that I'm after if a life full of laughter
as long as I'm laughing with you.
I'm thinking that all that still matters is love ever after
after the life we've been through
cause I know there's no life after you.

.4.
"Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol

I don't quite know how to say how I feel.
Those three words are said too much.
They're not enough.

.5.
"Superman Tonight" by Bon Jovi

Maybe I'm cynical.
I'm painfully logical.
You're tragic and beautiful
and that's good enough for me.
