This is what it looked like around the house last night:
We lost power for about 30 minutes. Mom and I were home alone. Neither of us could find a flashlight. We didn't even really know where to look. I know, we're so prepared! After a couple minutes of questioning, I got Mom to tell me where a lighter was. I retrieved it with the light from my cell phone and then went hunting for a candle with a flickering lighter. The candles worked well enough, but weren't great sources of light.
It's always amazing to me what happens when the power goes out. I immediately shut down my computer because I didn't want the battery to run out. (I have a finicky power cord that doesn't charge all the time so if they battery ran out, then I may not be able to charge the battery back up.) I tried using my cell phone as light and immediately noticed that I only had 2 of 3 bars of battery power on it. I know from experience that I don't have much talk time with only 2 bars. I started worrying about when I woud be able to charge my phone. It started getting noticeably warmer immediately. The ceiling fans had stopped spinning and the a/c obviously wasn't blowing. I knew that if this continued into the night that sleeping wouldn't be comfortable. We are so dependant on electricity. It's easy to overlook this. Luckily the blackout only lasted about 30 minutes.
