I read quite a few blogs everyday. The vast vast majority do not know I exist much less that I am following their lives. I have decided that I should stop being afraid of what other people will think of me and say "hi" instead. I am going to try to leave a comment everyday on a blog that I enjoy reading. I am going to do my best to not expect anything in return. I am doing this as a challenge to myself and as a thank-you to the courageous and thoughtful writers that come into my home everyday.

So I take it you are at Fort Polk then? If so, I understand exactly what you are thinking. It's really not that bad though. I promise! If you go out and visit the other towns/cities and enjoy the festivals then you can have a good time, even in podunk USA.

Ok..here are a few of my favorite places.
Natchitoches is awesome. If you haven't been there then you should. They have lots of cute stores on the street across from the river and the house that they used in Steel Magnolias is there too.
Lake Charles has a really good sports bar called Pappy's. The sandwhiches there are great. My fave is the shrimp frozia po'boy and you must get a spicy bloody mary if you are there too.
Of course the plantations are cool too. They are a little bit south of Baton Rouge. I toured one called Laura Plantation, which was very interesting. Oak Alley is the other really interesting one, very picturesque.
Other than that I recommend Shreveport and New Orleans. We did a lot of little festivals and things like that too.
