I'm having an "I hate blogger" moment so I may not be around much.
I will be back, so stay tuned!

Look What I Got Yesterday

That pretty little number will make it's debut at my shower on Sunday. Believe it or not, it looks even better on me...I'm not a fan of the model's pose above. Now I just need to find some cute shoes...

Things I've Learned in the Last 36 Hours
Things I learned on my 8-hr drive yesterday:
1. You will run into a surprising amount of boat-hauling trucks in the pre-dawn hours on a Saturday in Louisiana.
2. People speed. Alot. I'm talking 80+ mph. The more expensive the car, the worse the speeding.
Things I learned at the gym this morning:
1. I can run 3/4 of a mile. (...with a 1/4 mile break after the first 1/2, but still!)
2. I have gained 2-5 pounds depending on what I count my weight as a few months ago. I am not happy about this.
3. I can still work out like I used to. That's encouraging.
Things I learned at the mall this afternoon:
1. No matter how fat I feel, I am still too small for the majority of women's clothes.
2. The more expensive the dress, the better it looks.
3. Give women a big 40% off sale at their favorite working/grandmotherly women store and there will be plenty of stink-eyes to go around about the lack of available dressing rooms and limited room to move.
4. When I tell a saleswoman that I need a dress for a shower (mine), she tries to send me to the juniors section. Do I look like a junior? And then she points out the sales rack. Do I look poor?
I made it to Texas. I arrived exhausted, but still managed to get to church and dinner with Mom. I miss Brian alot, but I know he's doing much better studying at home without me. This will be a crazy week for both of us for very different reasons. I'll try to keep this updated as things happen. Any thoughts and/or prayers would be appreciated, though.
Tonight I'm watching Cold Case and going to bed early so I can get up tomorrow and start on my to-do list. I hope everyone had a good weekend!

Back to Texas I Go
I am leaving tomorrow to head back home for about 10 days. This makes today a rather busy day. I have at least 3 loads of laundry to do this afternoon and I need to get the majority of my packing done tonight. It also probably wouldn't be a bad idea to go outside and clean the truck out. We've accumulated alot of junk in there in the last month. Today I've already kept an Army wife company while our husbands played golf this morning, baked 24 Banana Crumb Muffins, paid bills, and balanced the checkbook.
I am sorta dreading the 8-hr drive, but I've done it a number of times so I know I'll get through it. I'm leaving early enough to get it over with by mid-afternoon. I'll keep sending silent prayers upward for nice clear roads with light traffic.
I mentioned above going to keep a fellow Army wife company this morning. It's the same Army wife who's children I watched a few days ago. This morning, in the course of our conversation, I found out that her eldest child is not her husband's like I had assumed and that she doesn't have a high school diploma. I have nothing in common with this woman! I don't want to sound petty or stuck up, because I'm really not. I can't tell what she thinks about me so when I'm around her I'm always a little uncomfortable. She seems like the type of woman who would judge me for having a college degree and no children. I really think she's just insecure and a little bit on the shy side. I haven't treated her any different and I play with her children and give her a breather. There isn't any reason for her to dislike me and if she wants to dislike me for having a "better" life/upbringing, then I suppose that's her problem. Oh the insecurities of trying to make friends in this Army world! I really wish I could find someone to befriend that has a little bit more in common with me. Is that too much to ask?
I have a feeling my dryer will be buzzing any minute beckoning me to lose myelf in laundry folding.
I'll be coming to you next from the Great State of Texas!

How We Met
I always seem to write about what is happening to me right now. What about the 20+ years of my life that have not been chronicled on this blog? What about my stories of first loves, bad loves and last loves? What about all the unbelievable stories about some crazy friends I've had over the years or memories about growing up far away from any extended family? And there are always the never-ending tales of family vacations full of laughter and adventure.
Since my blog has graduated from family-only to the half dozen readers I currently have, I thought maybe someone somewhere would like to know a bit more about me. When I'm reading a new blog I like being able to read about who they are, how it all began, and where they came from. I aim to please so this is my first attempt. I am bad at committing to things so this may end up being my only attempt. I tried at least, right? It's the thought that counts? Whatever makes me feel better? Thanks.
I thought it best to start with the popular question (not that anyone has asked me this question lately or anything...) "How did you meet Brian?" There are so many stories about our early relationship - typical roller-coaster stuff. I'll share with you the weekend that we met. It was a full 3 day event! First some background:
I was in a wickedly dysfunctional, abusive (not physical - like that makes it any better...), and destructive relationship for over 2 years that ended on New Year's Eve 2005. The next 5 months were a blur of impulsive behavior, dating, and trying to figure out who I was without that guy dragging me down. This is how January through May went for me:
January: Hid out at my parents house.
February: Dated Cowboy Wannabe (CW) that I found on MySpace after not talking to him since I dated him in middle school.
March: Dated Super-Christian-Closet-Freak (SCCF) that I met at a restaurant (he was my waiter) and happened to go to my school.
April: Dated CW again.
May: Dated Ex-Marine (EM) that I met on MySpace.
I was a dating machine and not one of those guys had a single thing in common except that they weren't the guy I had recently left.
It was the first weekend in June and it was looking like I might end up dating CW again. He wasn't the healthiest person for my dating life, but he gave me plenty of positive attention and that's really what I was craving then.
On June 2, 2006 I let CW pick me up from my house (totally not a great idea considering how ugly our "relationship" had ended a month before, but I was stupid...) and we went to some house where friends of his were gathering. It was lame and we soon headed back to his house. On the way we picked up my partner in crime since I was 11, Jana. A group of people were at his house including some of his friends that I knew really well. There were also people I didn't know and if I don't know you, I don't talk to you. I am super shy most of the time. Brian was in the house when we got there (I think). I remember seeing him for the first time sitting at the table and thinking "He's cute." He had striking features: fair skin, dark brown eyes, and black hair. His hair was long and scraggly being tamed by a dirty baseball cap. He was wearing ragged, dirty clothes and to this day I'm not sure why I found that attractive.
I sipped on my Sonic coke + Crown while the boys played some card drinking game. (I do not play drinking games...ever.) Maybe it is my bad memory or maybe it was the Crown, but the details of the rest of the night are sorta fuzzy. I know that handsome, rugged, dirty boy and I hardly spoke that night. I hung around people I was familiar with and gave this new boy nary a thought. At some point Jana and I left and that was that.
The next day CW called me up and wanted me to make an appearance at the party he was throwing at his house that night. I, of course, said "Sure!" and promptly called Jana to be my wing-woman for the evening. She readily agreed. We arrived at the party and the handsome, rugged, dirty boy showed up at some point. There were more people there that night and I made my rounds. Jana and I ended up out front, leaning on CW's truck chatting it up with the handsome, rugged, dirty boy. We kept ourselves entertained by observing the antics of a falling down drunk guy who very well may have had a depression problem as well. We all had been drinking a fair amount and some of us were underage. A nasty rumor started quickly circulating about the cops being called. The handsome, rugged, dirty boy and I took off through the house, through the backyard, down the alley and behind a business down the street to hide from the MIP that we knew we'd get from the cops that we were sure were on their way. Don't ask me where Jana was because I have no idea. I know she was 21 though so maybe she decided not to hide. The handsome, rugged, dirty boy and I chatted about who-knows-what for awhile behind that store. Looking back, I either had some instinct that I could trust him not to hurt me or I was just intoxicated. It wasn't the smartest idea to take off with a guy I'd known about 24 hours (and never without the influence of alcohol) to the back of some store with no one within earshot. Luckily, I survived.
After a decent amount of time without hearing even the hint of a big police raid, we ventured back to the house. I found Jana panicking inside thinking something had happened to me. Apparently I had forgotten to tell her I was taking off...go figure. In some drunken stupor I exchanged numbers with the handsome, rugged, dirty boy and went home. (Luckily I only lived a few residential blocks away so the drive wasn't too terribly dangerous.)
And then it was Sunday. CW called again inviting Jana and I to a barbecue at his house that night. When we showed up, we found the handsome, rugged, dirty boy and CW sitting in the living room - they were the only people there and they had already eaten. So much for a barbecue! Instead of deeming the day spent, we went to play putt-putt. Today there would be no alcohol involved. The mosquitos were really bad that night as the sun set, and the handsome, rugged, dirty boy was as dirty and rugged as ever. This day, without my alcohol goggles on, I set my sights on this handsome, rugged, dirty boy. I had a tendency to do that - set my sights on someone and try my darndest to get them. I was never sure if I'd even like them once I got them, but it was a fun little challenge for my bruised ego.
I flirted my little heart out that night and as that handsome, rugged, dirty boy tells it now, he could definitely tell I was trying to flirt and he still didn't think he had a chance in hell with me. I teased him about the mosquitos flocking to him. I touched him whenever I could. I'd push him out of my way and bump into him on purpose. I gave him a hard time about not calling me even though he had my number. He turned it right back around on me and told me that I could have called him. He had driven us all there that night in his father's truck and scared the living daylights out of me with his driving. We all finally went our separate ways to our separate beds.
When I got home, you better believe that this ballsy girl picked up the phone and called the handsome, rugged, dirty boy to say "Ha! Look, I called!" (I'm tellin ya, I had balls.) That I-told-ya-so call ended up being much longer than the 30 seconds I originally intended. By the time we hung up, the handsome, rugged, dirty boy was named Brian and we had spoken tirelessly for 4 hours.
We would talk everyday after that. On Wednesday of that week he would call me at work to ask me out to dinner for our first real date.
Our relationship was not rainbows and butterflies after that - far from it at times - but here we are today. We are quickly closing in on the 3 year anniversary of that weekend. I cannot believe all that has happened in 3 short years. I think if I counted it up, we'd have only been together about half of those 3 years. It's been hard at times, but we love each other and we've made it together.
I love you my (still) handsome, (not nearly as) rugged, (sometimes) dirty (man) boy!
